I have been into over 100 prisons now and every time I leave, I reflect on how hard it must be to exit through the large gate and be in a community that is growing at such a fast pace. Faster, quieter cars, smarter phones, online payments, ordering through QR codes; These are but a few of the differences that leave people feeling disconnected and behind when they get released from prison. I work with a lot of people leaving prison who want to be independent, make their families proud and fulfil their dreams. The need to catch up, learn fast and reconnect is palpable and urgent. You could say their survival depends on it. I am supporting this App because I want to create an environment where people can help themselves, and feed forward their learning, so no one comes out of prison feeling lost. I want people to know we are there for them, beside them, and rooting for them. Â
One of the guys we supported was called Danny. Danny was someone who was full of hope and a budding artist, who was released from Prison in 2017. The lack of support and challenges navigating life upon return became too much and tiring, to the point that he felt he no longer wanted to be part of this world. The App is for Danny. Â
This lack of hope was heartbreaking and fuelled a desire to create a system that provided support.
